Alternate IRB members are designated for a specific member or members. Alternate IRB members are selected to assure comparable qualifications to the primary member based on discipline, expertise, and/or education and professional experience. If both the alternate IRB member and the primary IRB member attend a meeting, only one of these two may vote. In these cases, the minutes reflect who is in attendance as a voting IRB member.
