Rationale

Subjects have the right to keep information private.  In order to protect a subject’s right to privacy, researchers will collect only the minimum information necessary in order to answer the research question.  The University of Iowa’s Operations Manual requires that research subjects be given the option to decline compensation if they do not want to provide a SSN.
